Asia Break Bulk Secures Four Heavy-Lift Vessel Newbuilds Under Long-Term Charter Agreements

Asia Break Bulk Expands Heavy-Lift Capacity with Strategic Newbuild Program

Singapore-based Asia Break Bulk (ABB), a key subsidiary of the Hamburg-headquartered COLI Group, has finalized long-term commercial agreements with Schoeller Holdings for the acquisition of four advanced multipurpose heavy-lift vessels. The first vessel in this strategic expansion is scheduled for delivery in October 2028.

Key Technical Specifications and Operational Features

The newbuilds will feature a robust design optimized for heavy-lift operations, including:

  • 12,000+ DWT capacity to accommodate high-density break bulk and project cargoes.
  • Advanced heavy-lift capabilities, including integrated cranes and specialized gear for oversized and out-of-gauge loads.
  • Enhanced environmental compliance, aligning with IMO 2030 and 2050 decarbonization targets.
  • State-of-the-art navigation and safety systems for improved operational efficiency and crew welfare.

Strategic Implications for the Break Bulk Sector

This fleet expansion underscores ABB’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global heavy-lift market, particularly in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. The new vessels will support high-demand sectors such as energy infrastructure, mining, and industrial manufacturing, where oversized and project-specific cargoes require specialized handling.

The long-term charter agreements with Schoeller Holdings further solidify ABB’s operational resilience, ensuring dedicated capacity for critical cargo movements while maintaining flexibility in an evolving market.
