MARAD Emphasizes Strategic Role of Great Lakes in National Maritime Strategy
CHICAGO – July 30, 2026 – The United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) has underscored the importance of the Great Lakes in revitalizing America’s maritime sector, asserting that the nation’s industrial resurgence cannot be achieved by concentrating solely on ocean coastlines.
Speaking at a maritime industry event, a MARAD representative highlighted the Great Lakes as one of the country’s five essential maritime coastlines, alongside the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf, and Arctic regions.
