Maersk Divests Training Division to Focused Investment Firm

Strategic Sale of Maersk Training Announced

A.P. Moller – Maersk has finalized an agreement to transfer ownership of Maersk Training and its subsidiary, Maersk H2S Safety Services, to Open Gate Capital, a private equity firm specializing in industrial and corporate carve-outs.

The transaction marks the conclusion of a 40-year chapter during which Maersk Training delivered specialized maritime, offshore, and safety instruction to seafarers, energy sector personnel, and industrial teams worldwide. The division has operated as a standalone entity, maintaining its own operational and financial structure.

Key Details of the Transaction

  • Maersk Training will continue to provide its full suite of training programs, including STCW-compliant courses, offshore survival, and H2S safety certification.
  • Open Gate Capital assumes full operational control, with no anticipated disruptions to ongoing training schedules or client contracts.
  • Maersk has not disclosed financial terms but confirmed the sale aligns with its strategic focus on core logistics and supply chain services.

Implications for Seafarers and Industry Partners

The transition is expected to proceed seamlessly, with Open Gate Capital emphasizing continuity in service delivery. Current trainees, corporate clients, and certification holders will see no immediate changes to course availability, instructor qualifications, or facility access.

Maersk Training’s global network—spanning training centers in Denmark, the UK, the US, India, and the UAE—remains fully operational. The new ownership structure may introduce expanded investment in digital training platforms and regional capacity, though no specific initiatives have been announced.

For further updates, industry stakeholders are advised to monitor official communications from Maersk Training or Open Gate Capital.
