Maersk Divests Training Division to Private Equity Firm OpenGate Capital

Strategic Sale of Maersk Training Announced

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has finalized an agreement to transfer ownership of Maersk Training and its subsidiary, Maersk H2S Safety Services, to OpenGate Capital, a private equity firm specializing in industrial and corporate carve-outs.

The transaction is contingent upon standard closing conditions and regulatory clearances, with completion expected in the coming months. Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

Operational Continuity Assured

Maersk has confirmed that Maersk Training will maintain its current operations, course portfolio, and global footprint throughout the transition. The division will continue serving maritime, oil and gas, wind energy, and other high-risk industries with its established safety and technical training programs.

OpenGate Capital, headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in Europe, focuses on acquiring and revitalizing underperforming or non-core business units. The firm’s investment strategy emphasizes operational improvements and long-term growth.

Implications for Maritime Professionals

  • Training Programs: No immediate changes to course structures, certifications, or instructor teams are anticipated.
  • Global Reach: Existing training centers in Denmark, the UK, the US, India, and the UAE will remain fully operational.
  • Industry Focus: Maersk Training’s expertise in H2S safety, offshore survival, and dynamic positioning will continue to support seafarers and offshore personnel.

Maersk stated that the divestment aligns with its strategic focus on integrated logistics and ocean transport solutions. The company will now concentrate resources on core shipping, supply chain, and terminal operations.
