HD Hyundai Samho has handed over the Jane Maersk, the first of five 93,000-cubic-meter very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) ordered by Maersk in November 2023. The vessel marks a significant milestone in the transition toward alternative maritime fuels.

Key Specifications and Capabilities

  • Dual-fuel design: Capable of transporting both liquefied ammonia and LPG, enhancing operational flexibility.
  • Ammonia-ready: Engineered to meet future regulatory and market demands for carbon-neutral shipping.
  • Capacity: 93,000 cubic meters, optimized for large-scale ammonia transport.

The delivery underscores Maersk’s commitment to decarbonization, aligning with its strategic goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The remaining four VLACs in the series are expected to join the fleet in the coming years.
