Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Secures Contract for Advanced Ammonia Fuel Supply System

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Delivers Next-Gen Ammonia Fuel Technology to Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a core entity within the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has been awarded a contract by Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine Co., Ltd. (HZME) for the supply of its proprietary MAmmoSS ammonia fuel handling system.

The system, designed to support the safe and efficient use of ammonia as a marine fuel, underscores the industry’s shift toward decarbonization. Ammonia, a zero-carbon fuel, is gaining traction as a viable alternative to conventional fossil-based fuels, aligning with global emissions reduction targets.

Key Features of the MAmmoSS System

  • Ammonia Supply: Ensures precise fuel delivery to propulsion systems while maintaining operational stability.
  • Safety Protocols: Incorporates advanced risk mitigation measures, including leak detection, emergency shutdown, and containment systems.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Meets stringent IMO and class society requirements for ammonia-fueled vessels.
  • Integration Capability: Engineered for seamless retrofitting or newbuild installations, supporting diverse vessel types.

The collaboration between Mitsubishi Shipbuilding and HZME reflects a strategic effort to accelerate the adoption of ammonia propulsion, addressing both environmental mandates and operational demands in the maritime sector.

Further details on deployment timelines and vessel applications will be disclosed as the project progresses.
