Saildrone to Enhance Swedish Maritime Domain Awareness in Baltic Sea Deployment
The Swedish Armed Forces has partnered with Saildrone to conduct a year-long mission aimed at bolstering maritime domain awareness (MDA) across Sweden’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Baltic Sea.
This strategic collaboration will see Saildrone deploy its advanced uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) to provide real-time, persistent surveillance capabilities. The mission aligns with Sweden’s broader defense modernization efforts, focusing on enhancing situational awareness in a critical maritime region.
The deployment will leverage Saildrone’s wind- and solar-powered platforms, equipped with sophisticated sensors for tracking vessel movements, detecting anomalies, and supporting maritime security operations. The data collected will contribute to Sweden’s ability to monitor and respond to threats in the Baltic Sea, an area of increasing geopolitical significance.
This initiative underscores the growing integration of autonomous systems in naval operations, offering a cost-effective and scalable solution for extended maritime surveillance.
