Search Efforts Continue After Fatalities in *Prospector 5* Rig Sinking Off Gabon

Three Crew Recovered; Two Remain Missing in *Prospector 5* Tragedy

The Gabonese Navy has confirmed the recovery of three crew members from the wreckage of the *Prospector 5* jack-up rig, which sank approximately 120 nautical miles offshore Gabon on October 24. Search and rescue operations remain active as authorities continue to hunt for two crew members still unaccounted for.

The incident occurred during a routine drilling operation in the Kanga Marine Block, where the rig encountered structural failure and sank in deep waters. The Gabonese Navy, supported by international maritime assets, has been leading the recovery efforts, though harsh sea conditions have complicated operations.

Ongoing Challenges in Deep-Water Recovery

Maritime authorities have emphasized the technical difficulties posed by the rig’s depth and the remote location, which has delayed the recovery process. The Gabonese government has deployed additional resources, including underwater drones and specialized diving teams, to assist in the search.

Borr Drilling, the operator of the rig, has issued a statement expressing deep concern for the missing crew and offering support to their families. The company has also launched an internal investigation into the causes of the sinking, in coordination with Gabonese maritime regulators.

Safety Review Underway in Gabon’s Offshore Sector

In the wake of the incident, Gabon’s maritime authorities have announced a review of safety protocols for offshore drilling operations in the region. Industry experts are urging operators to reinforce emergency response plans, particularly in high-risk deep-water environments.

Further updates will be provided as the search efforts progress and additional details emerge.
