Leadership Transition at U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York
The United States Coast Guard (USCG) marked a significant leadership transition at Sector New York with a formal change-of-command ceremony held at the sector’s Staten Island headquarters.
During the event, Capt. Jonathan Andrechik officially transferred command to Capt. Doreen McCarthy, who now assumes responsibility for all operational and administrative functions within the sector. The ceremony was presided over by Rear Adm. Michael Platt, Commander of the USCG Northeast District, underscoring the importance of the role in safeguarding maritime security, search and rescue, and environmental protection across the region.
Sector New York serves as a critical hub for Coast Guard operations in the New York Harbor and surrounding waters, overseeing port security, vessel inspections, and emergency response.
