SUNY Maritime College’s Empire State VII Aborts Extended Naval Deployment; Returns to Homeport

Empire State VII to Resume Training Operations in New York

The State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College’s training vessel, the Empire State VII, will return to its homeport at Fort Schuyler in the Bronx by mid-November. The ship’s planned months-long deployment with the U.S. Navy has been canceled following a reassessment by federal authorities.

Originally scheduled for an extended operational mission, the training ship will now refocus on its core cadet training and maritime education programs. The abrupt change underscores shifting priorities in naval training partnerships and highlights the college’s adaptability in responding to evolving operational demands.

SUNY Maritime College remains committed to preparing the next generation of professional seafarers, officers, and maritime leaders, ensuring continuity in its rigorous training curriculum despite external adjustments.
