The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) marked a significant milestone as 188 cadets earned their commissions as merchant marine and military officers during its 90th commencement ceremony.

Overseen by the U.S. Department of Transportation, USMMA stands as one of the nation’s five federal service academies, preparing future leaders for critical roles in maritime operations and national defense. The graduating class now joins the ranks of licensed mariners and commissioned officers, ready to serve in both commercial and military sectors.

Leadership Addresses Graduates

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean P. Duffy, who delivered the keynote address, emphasized the Academy’s pivotal role in strengthening America’s maritime workforce. He highlighted the graduates’ readiness to meet the challenges of modern shipping, global logistics, and naval support operations.
