Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI) has been awarded a critical shipbuilding contract to construct the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) next-generation Missile Range Instrumentation Vessels (MRIV). The project will be executed in collaboration with TOTE Services, which will assume the role of Vessel Construction Manager (VCM), overseeing the build process to ensure compliance with stringent operational and technical requirements.

The MRIV program represents a key asset in the MDA’s surveillance and tracking infrastructure, designed to provide real-time telemetry, radar, and optical data collection for missile testing and defense operations. These specialized vessels will enhance the agency’s ability to monitor high-velocity projectiles, hypersonic threats, and other advanced weapon systems across extended maritime ranges.

HPSI, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Hanwha Group, brings proven expertise in commercial and defense shipbuilding, with a track record of delivering high-specification tonnage for U.S. government and private-sector clients. TOTE Services, a leader in maritime operations and project management, will apply its experience in naval architecture, regulatory compliance, and lifecycle support to ensure the vessels are built to exacting standards. The company’s involvement underscores its expanding role in U.S. defense maritime programs, following previous contracts for government and military logistics vessels.
