Six More Aurora Class Vessels Ordered by Höegh Autoliners
Höegh Autoliners has finalised an order for six additional Aurora class pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs), reinforcing its commitment to fleet modernisation and decarbonisation.
The latest order brings the total number of Aurora class vessels to eighteen, with the series retaining the option for further expansion. These next-generation ships are designed to operate on zero-carbon ammonia and liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with the company’s long-term sustainability objectives.
Key Features of the Aurora Class
- Dual-Fuel Propulsion: Capable of running on ammonia and LNG, future-proofing operations against evolving emissions regulations.
- Enhanced Cargo Capacity: Each vessel offers a 9,100-CEU (car equivalent unit) capacity, optimising efficiency for high-volume vehicle transport.
- Advanced Safety Systems: Incorporates state-of-the-art fire detection, suppression, and structural integrity measures.
- Operational Flexibility: Designed for global trade routes, with reinforced decks and adjustable ramps to accommodate diverse cargo types.
The newbuilds will be constructed at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu), with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2027. This expansion follows Höegh Autoliners’ earlier order of twelve Aurora class vessels, all of which are set to enter service by 2025.
